skate comic about doing for yourself

The theme of the current issue of Oregon Humanities is Stuff. This comic is the result of thinking about Under a Spell by Jon Holloran and of course the Ramones song that goes: I don’t wanna be a Pinhead no more…. I once saw a picture of Joey wearing that wheels t-shirt too. Wornfree used to sell a recreation of the shirt.

dog prints in deck around backyard skate bowl

My dog insists on walking through every deck pour. I decided to leave a couple of prints in the six-foot section I did last night. Maybe she’ll stay out of the last 20 feet.

skate comic about conformity

Style of this comic emulates the art of Aquirax Uno. I copied a couple of his figures and got to thinking about hippies and a recent piece in Wired Magazine about teaching. My working method reflects a constant battle between trying not to over-think the comic and fishing for inspiration. Remember that I started this thing to give myself an incentive to do more drawing. I think comic artists usually start by writing their strip. Not me.

Of course one might describe this as a purely narcissistic endeavor only vaguely resembling a comic strip.

skate comic about communication breakdown

Skate 2 looks pretty good but there are some weird names for tricks and something odd about the landings. At least the skaters aren’t always 30 feet in the air.

skate comic about infantile fascination

I combined actual dialogue from two different sessions here for comic effect. If anyone is offended, please substitute “Can you fellows please stop undressing us with your eyes?” for the final speech bubble.

zane is a cool kid

I went to Zane Tobin’s 7th birthday party. Highlights included some awesome barbecued ribs, seeing a giant inflatable bouncy house in the Tobin’s front yard, helping Dave hang the piñata and watching Zane skating the bowl. Check out some phonecam video after the turn.
