Hopeless Old Men On Skateboards 1455
June 1st, 2013

August 2005, West Linn. Trying to shoot a sequence of Marek Litinsky transferring from big to small, caught two shots of a bail and got some weird distortion. My wife spotted the nose of the board visible at the bottom of the shot partially covering his right leg. Both frames on the second page.

Lomita, California circa 1977. My first quarter pipe, four-foot radius eight-foot wide. I think that’s a Z-Flex Jay Adams.

This must have been the summer before moved to Oregon. I only recognize the team captain, Denny Watson. Circa 1977 photographer unknown.

This was a pretty bad color negative to begin with, shooting right into the sun. But I used a Lomography Smartphone Film Scanner and some photoshop tweaks and was able to get this 1278 x 1500 pixel image. I’ll have to try it on a good negative but I suspect what we have here is a way to degrade your high-res negatives to the relatively low resolution good enough for Instagram or Facebook plus, wacky unpredictability (at least from color negatives. Black and white will be more straightforward.
